The Molded

"The mold is the most horrific thing to ever take advantage of Recipe's absence. The only thing worse is that they walk among us and anyone can end up as one. It's almost poetic."

-The Founder (Cycle 105)

This is a database of publicly available documents regarding the Molded released by the Consumera Anti-Molded agency (C.A.M. for short). The following documentation were released to the public for the sole reason of keeping everyone informed and aware. This is by no means a guide, nor an invitation to directly fight the Molded yourself. For everyone's sake, leave it to the professionals. The Mold is a strain of infectious fungi that is capable of caking control of and mutating Consumerians. There is currently no information on their origns, but they were first encountered in Cycle 103 by a small platoon of toast scouts. This was then followed by the tragic fall of the Old Toast Capital. Currently, the ruins of the Old Capital sit in the heart of the wasteland. Over the course of the last few cycles, requests have been made for an expedition to reclaim the Old Capital, however all requests have been denied by the higher ups due to fear of uncountable losses to bandits and molded.

Infection Process

The mold infection spreads upon mold often seen leaking from various specimen's orifices. These cases frequently occur in Consumerians such as toast and bread due to the natural absorbtion that comes with their physiology combined with the fluid strain of mold. Other methods of infection have also been spread through spores and physical bites, though the former is seen more frequently in The Wasteland. Once infected, a number of symptoms may tip you off to who is turning. Keep an eye on the eyes of the subject. There are a number of green patterns that tend to form in the inside of the optical holes. These include fractal patterns, subtle green glows, or a green mass formed at the very back of the eye. If you spot anyone with these symptoms in anyone, INFORM THE C.A.M. AGENCY IMMEDIATELY.

Molded Specimens

Moldy Vagabond(Grainigan)

The Moldy Vagabond is the most common and straightforward type of molded. They resemble standard toast or bread with slime mold leaking from their orifices and frequently are seen on the brink of decay due to the body's poor reaction to contact with fluid substances.

Standard Procedure:

Due to the fragility of their physical structures, it is relatively simple to dispose of a Moldy Vagabond. Anything that can kill a regular Consumerian will also kill them. When carrying out the disposal process, be sure to not get any of the mold on you.

Moldy Amalgam

The telltale sign of a Molded's age is how mutated it appears. The older it gets, the worse it's structural integrety it. Once mature enough, a standard Molded can be reduced to a mass of sludge and biological material. The Molded Amalgam is what you get when multiple of these sludge masses find each other and assimilate. They are indiscriminate in their priorities and will attack other molded in addition to uninfected. This can be attributed to the instinctual desire to grow larger. The more material integrated into the Amalgam, the higher the chances are to mutate into something entirely different to spread the mold more efficiently

Standard Procedure:

A common mistake among newer agents is to prioritize Amalgams lower than other mMlded. However, if left unchecked an amalgam can engorge itself on a number of other Molded and become far more dangerous than in a smaller form. In some cases, the Amalgam can be rejected and get absorbed into another molded instead of the other way around resulting in a different Molded growing larger and stronger. This phenomenon though rare, has been spotted more in the Wasteland than in a standard urban outbreak. Standard procedure is to keep an eye on them if taking on groups of Molded so they don't grow stronger

Moldy Floater

The Moldy Floated is a mutation of a Moldy Amalgam that has maintained enough structural integrity to hover slightly above the ground. To compensate for their loss of limbs and decreased motor functions, the Moldy Floater has adapted to be capable of infecting victims at range with a snout capable of propelling slime mold at high speeds.

Standard Procedure:

It goes without saying that fighting with close-quarters weapons are less than ideal when taking on these Molded. Although C.A.M. melee tools are made for the purpose of taking on Molded from a distance, it has become an embarrasing trend that we have encurred numerous losses due to agents disposing of Floaters from below and failing to take gravity into account, resulting in heavy infections. For that reason, all C.A.M. agents have been supplied with a supplementary sidearm specialized in cleanly grounding floaters and any other out of reach Molded.
